The Sagebrush Sea is a vast, beautiful, diverse landscape in the American West.

The Sagebrush Sea is an economically important and ecologically vibrant ecosystem.

The Sagebrush Sea is cold deserts, high plateaus and mountain ranges; lakes, rivers, streams, springs and wetlands; hot springs, playas, dunes and volcanic rock formations--it is not "grasslands."

The Sagebrush Sea is a mosaic of shrubs, trees, grasses and wildflowers that provide food and shelter for hundreds of fish and wildlife species.

The Sagebrush Sea is often the last wild open space in the West, much of it public lands, ringed by sprawling western cities and encroaching agricultural and energy development.

The Sagebrush Sea is a term used by conservationists to brand" the sagebrush steppe in order to promote its protection and restoration to decisionmakers, the media, state and federal management agencies and the public.

The Sagebrush Sea Campaign has published a twenty-page color booklet describing the geography, ecology, flora and fauna, uses and abuses of the Sagebrush Sea. The booklet also highlights current and future efforts to conserve and restore sagebrush habitat across the West. These include interrelated campaigns to designate Bureau of Land Management wilderness, restrict off-road vehicle use, buyout federal grazing permits and protect sage grouse. The booklet was carefully designed to serve a variety of audiences, including local, state, and federal decisionmakers, agency officials, media, conservationists and the general public.

Two versions of the booklet are available for download, both in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. Attractive paper copies of the booklet are also available for $10 (costs of shipping and handling). To order booklets, contact Mark Salvo at mark@sagebrushsea.org.
