CNE victories
After submitting the petition, pressured BLM to
drop oil and gas lease sales on 40,000 acres of white-tailed prairie dog
habitat; succeeded in encouraging Montana to end white-tailed prairie
dog target shooting on state and federal lands; permanent shooting ban
within a black-footed ferret recovery area in northeastern Utah, and a
seasonal ban throughout the rest of the state.
We've had some other good white-tailed pdog news lately. Montana renewed
its wtpd shooting ban (federal land) and made it a biennial rule (now
up
only every other year instead of annually), Utah adopted a seasonal wtpd
shooting ban statewide (federal and state lands) as well as renewed its
total shooting ban in the black-footed ferret recovery area. FS Region
added wtpd to its Sensitive Species list, as did the state of Utah. We
also
secured NSO stipulations for a drilling lease within the largest remaining
prairie dog complex in Montana (on the Custer NF). For a rundown visit
our
wtpd page (http://www.nativeecosystems.org/prairiedogs/whitetailed/).
